People ask me sometimes why I write Christian music. It’s a fair question. The Christian music market is crowded. The commercial opportunities are limited compared to mainstream genres. And frankly, it’s not always easy to write about faith in a way that feels honest rather than clich\u00e9d.<\/p>\n\n

So why do it?<\/p>\n\n

An Audience of One<\/h2>\n\n

The short answer is this: I write for an audience of One.<\/p>\n\n

I’m not writing to top a chart. I’m not writing to impress a producer or win a Grammy. I’m writing because I have something to say to God \u2014 and music is the language I say it in.<\/p>\n\n

The Psalms are the model here. David didn’t write the Psalms for a record label. He wrote them in the wilderness, in the palace, in exile, in joy, in grief. He wrote them because he couldn’t not write them.<\/p>\n\n

That’s where I am.<\/p>\n\n

The Tragedy of Complexity<\/h2>\n\n

My album The Tragedy of Complexity came out of a season of wrestling with faith in a complicated world. The title track is about how we overcomplicate the simple Gospel \u2014 how we add layers of theology, politics, and cultural baggage to something Jesus made beautifully simple.<\/p>\n\n

The songs on that album are honest. Some of them are uncomfortable. That’s intentional.<\/p>\n\n

Music as Ministry<\/h2>\n\n

I believe music reaches places that words alone cannot. A melody can carry a truth past someone’s defenses in a way that a sermon sometimes can’t. A lyric can lodge itself in someone’s memory and come back to them at exactly the right moment.<\/p>\n\n

That’s not magic. That’s just how God wired us.<\/p>\n\n
